History of Athletics

The athletics department at The University of Scranton dates back to 1892, when the students of the University -- then known as St. Thomas College -- formed a football team that played its first game on Thanksgiving of that year. From there, athletics has developed into the 18-sport department that we know today. Our 18 teams -- nine for men, nine for women -- compete on the NCAA Division III level.
