Senior second baseman Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) had one of the best four-game stretches of his career, leading The University of Scranton baseball team to the final day of the Landmark Conference Championship this past weekend. As a result, he has been named the University’s Athlete of the Week.
In four games, Schneider finished 9-for-16 (.563) with three doubles, six runs and three RBIs. He had at least two hits in each game, posted a .750 slugging percentage, a .650 on-base percentage and was successful in his only stolen base attempt.
In the Royals’ first playoff game Friday night against Elizabethtown, Schneider went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI in a 9-4 victory. He came back a day later and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Scranton advanced to the final with an 8-4 win over Catholic.
On Sunday, Scranton lost twice to Catholic in the championship series, but Schneider continued his outstanding play, going a combined 4-for-8 with a double, three runs and a stolen base on the day.
For the season, Schneider hit a career-high .371 with six doubles, a triple, 14 runs and 16 RBIs after sitting out the first 13 games of the season with a knee injury. His play helped the team go 22-21, its fifth season in the past eight with 20 or more wins.
