Women's Basketball (3-0)

The women's basketball team stayed unbeaten by winning its only game of the week, a 76-53 victory over crosstown rival Marywood in the Long Center on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Junior guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) finished with a game-high 24 points along with seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) added a career-high 18 points along with six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

Scranton finished the night shooting 51.7 percent (31-for-60) from the field, including 9 of 22 (40.9 percent) from 3-point range.

The Lady Royals return to action on Monday, Nov. 27, when they host Neumann at 7 p.m. in the Long Center.

Men's Basketball (2-3)

The University of Scranton men's basketball team went 1-2 during the week, falling on the road against Widener on Tuesday, then bouncing back to defeat King's on Saturday before losing to Wilkes on Sunday.

The Royals opened their week with a tough 82-75 loss at Widener on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Chester, Pa. The Royals led by three at halftime, but the Pride took control midway through the second half. Senior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) led Scranton with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) had 15 points, and senior guards Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) and Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) had 13 each.

Scranton rebounded on Saturday, Nov. 25, to rally past King's, 85-79, in the opening day of the Cross-County Challenge in the Long Center. Danzig made eight 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points. Schankweiler had his second straight double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and senior guard Mitch Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) matched his career high with 14 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:07 to play.

In Sunday's 52-45 loss to Wilkes in the in the second day of the Cross-County Challenge in the Long Center, the Royals could not overcome a cold-shooting afternoon. The Royals shot just 20.8 (5-for-24) percent during the first half, however they entered halftime tied 19-19. In the second half, the Royals shot 33.3 percent (9-for-27), but still had a chance in the final five minutes when they pulled within 45-41.

But Wilkes (4-1) used a 7-2 spurt over the last four minutes to hold onto the lead, including making five of six shots from the free thrown line.

Danzig finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks, an assist and a steal to earn All-Tournament honors. Doolan had 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The Royals will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when they travel to Radnor, Pa. to take on Cabrini in a non-conference game at 8 p.m.
