Women’s basketball (8-2, 2-0 Landmark)
The University of Scranton women’s basketball team won its only game of the week, defeating Kean University, 60-49, on Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Long Center.
Junior forward Meredith Mesaris (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) led the way with 17 points, sophomore guard Lia DiSciascio (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) had a team-high 14 points and senior forward Erin Boggan (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) added 12 in the victory.
Scranton is back in action on Monday, Dec. 17, when it hosts Oneonta State at 4 p.m. in the Long Center. The Lady Royals will then break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Dec. 30 and 31 against Emmanuel (Mass.) and Cal-Lutheran, respectively, in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Men’s basketball (6-2, 1-1 Landmark)
The University of Scranton men’s basketball team suffered a 94-93 loss in overtime to Keystone College on Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Long Center.
The Royals overcame a late six-point deficit to force overtime, then scored the first six points of overtime, but the Giants rallied for the win. Freshman forward Brendan Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) had a career-high 24 points, junior guard Tommy Morgan (Greenlawn, N.Y./Chaminade) had 18 points, sophomore guard Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) had 16 points, 12 points and eight assists, junior guard Michael Barr (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) had 13 points and senior guard Tim Lavelle (Clarks Green, Pa./Scranton Preparatory).
Scranton hosts the PNC Royal Rumble on Monday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 18. The Royals will play St. Joseph’s of Long Island in Monday’s opening round at 8 p.m. Alvernia faces Gwynedd-Mercy at 6 p.m. Tuesday’s consolation and championship are set for 4 and 6 p.m.
