Men’s Tennis (4-2, 2-0 Landmark)
The University of Scranton men’s tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory over Drew on Saturday, March 29, in Madison, N.J.
Freshman David Commender (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep) secured the deciding point with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. The Royals also received two wins each from seniors David Teres (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Brian Williams (Madison, N.J./Madison), and a singles victory from senior James Dalkiewicz (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman).
Scranton returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when it hosts Juniata in a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. at Royal Courts.
Women’s Tennis (5-5, 2-0 Landmark)
The University of Scranton women’s tennis team won its fourth straight match when it swept Drew University, 9-0, in a Landmark Conference match on Saturday, March 29, in Madison, N.J.
Seniors Stephanie Boccuzzi (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Devon Cohen (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) picked up wins at the top singles spots and teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles. The Royals also received two wins apiece from juniors Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) and Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), and sophomore Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep).
The Royals are back in action on Monday, March 31, when they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. to take on Elizabethtown at 3:30 p.m.
Men’s Lacrosse (6-4, 2-0 Landmark)
The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team split a pair of games during the week, dropping a non-conference game and winning a Landmark Conference game, both on the road.
The Royals began the week with an 8-5 loss to Kean University on Wednesday, March 26, in Union, N.J. Sophomore Alec Mikrut (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) led Scranton with two goals and two assists, and senior John Gregitis (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph’s Preparatory) finished with a goal and an assist.
Scranton rebounded to defeat Washington & Jefferson, 14-5, in a Landmark Conference game on Saturday, March 29, in Washington, Pa. Senior attacker Gus Sturm (Devon, Pa./Conastoga) led the Royals with four goals, and Gregitis, Mikrut and junior attacker Anthony Lombardo (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) each finished with two goals and an assist.
Scranton is back in action on Wednesday, April 2, when it hosts Elizabethtown at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
Women’s Lacrosse (2-4, 1-2 Landmark)
The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team split a pair of games during the week, losing a non-conference game before bouncing back to earn a Landmark Conference victory.
The Royals opened the week with a 12-8 loss at Misericordia on Wednesday, March 26. Scranton received four goals from junior Emily Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and three by senior Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional).
Scranton got back on the winning track by defeating Elizabethtown, 16-6, in a Landmark Conference game on Saturday, March 29, at Fitzpatrick Field. Goss led the Royals with four goals and freshman midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) chipped in three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) scored three goals and senior attacker Erin Green (Merrick, N.Y./Sandford Calhoun) contributed two goals and an assist.
Scranton is back on Fitzpatrick Field on Wednesday, April 2, when it hosts Montclair State at 7 p.m.
Softball (3-6, 1-1 Landmark)
The University of Scranton women’s softball team was unable to play during the week due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions. The Royals will return to action on Tuesday, April 1, when they visit Wilkes at 4 p.m. in Edwardsville, Pa.
Baseball (4-5, 1-2 Landmark)
The University of Scranton baseball team was unable to play a game for the second straight week due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions. The Royals will Juniata College on Wednesday, April 2, at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at Connell Park.
