Royals Lose Hard-Fought 5-4 Match To Ithaca In NCAA Tournament First Round
The University of Scranton women’s tennis team made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, but the Royals’ memorable day ended in heart-breaking fashion as Ithaca College won four of six singles matches to rally for a 5-4 victory over the Royals in an NCAA Tournament first-round match at Middlebury College on Friday afternoon.

Nelson Named Scranton Athlete of the Week After Strong Playoff Performance
Junior attacker Taylor Nelson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) made his mark on the Landmark Conference men’s lacrosse playoffs, even if it came in a losing effort. Nelson scored three goals and had three assists in The University of Scranton’s 15-9 loss to Drew in the conference semifinals, and as a result has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 6.

Bessoir Named To MAC Hall of Fame
In 29 seasons as head men’s basketball coach at The University of Scranton (1972-2001), Bob Bessoir won two NCAA Division III championships (1976, 1983), advanced to the Final Four on two other occasions (1977, 1988), and captured 14 conference titles in the Royals’ previous affiliation with the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation, more commonly known as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
