Seniors Michael Gaeta (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) had three hits apiece to lead The University of Scranton baseball team to a 15-3 victory over Maine-Presque Isle on Friday afternoon at Connell Park.
Trabulsi, who had two RBIs, and Gaeta, who drove in one, each had a double, two singles and scored twice. Junior second baseman Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) singled, doubled, drove in four and scored twice in the win.
The Royals (7-6) also received two hits and two RBIs from freshman shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and two hits, two runs and an RBI from junior left fielder Michael Umerich (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights).
Five Scranton pitchers combined on a five-hitter in the win. Freshman David Chromey (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) worked two scoreless innings of relief for the victory.
The second game of Friday's doubleheader was halted in the middle of the first inning due to rain. It will not be rescheduled.
The Royals are back in action on Sunday when they face Misericordia at 2:30 p.m. at PNC Field in the Bill Howerton StrikeOut Cancer event, in memory of former Royals head coach Bill Howerton, who passed away in 2012 after a battle with cancer.
