The annual University of Scranton field hockey alumni game will be held this Saturday, August 23, at Fitzpatrick Field beginning at 12:30 p.m., head coach Colleen Moyer announced today.
All alumni of the program are welcome to return to campus and give it the old college try. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Immediately following the game, a ceremony to celebrate former Royal Alicia Tamboia (2008-2011) will take place. During her distinguished four-year career, she served as team captain, appeared in 50 games and started 23 times, and finished with nine goals—including five game-winning goals—in helping Scranton win 38 games and advance to the Landmark Conference tournament twice (2008, 2011).
Off the field, she was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she took part in numerous community service projects including the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Giving Tree, Adopt an Angel, Safe Trick or Treat, and Athletes 4 Athletes. She was also active in College Against Cancer Club, a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer and to fostering the ideals and mission of the American Cancer Society. She also served as manager of the baseball team.
In 2012, she received the Willensky Award, which is presented annually to the senior student-athlete who continually strives to understand and improve the human condition.
Miss Tamboia, a native of Wingdale, New York, passed away in July.
