It’s been quite a year for head coach Ed Karpovich and The University of Scranton men’s golf team.

His Royals went 13-1 in dual-match competition, won the Utica Invitational and inaugural Anthracite Golf Championships titles last fall, and placed second at the 72-hole Empire 8 Conference championships, which concluded in April with the final 36 holes played at the East Course of the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

And as well as the Royals did on the golf course, they did even better in the classroom.  Today, their academic achievements landed them Empire 8 Conference Academic Honors.  This award is presented by the conference to teams which have maintained a semester grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. The Scranton men’s golf team posted a team GPA of 3.41.

In addition, four members of the team — seniors Dan Penetar (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and Kevin Kucharski (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon), junior Joshua Jimenez (Apalachin, NY/Seton Catholic Central), and sophomore Ryan Brown (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) — were named to the conference’s President’s List for the spring semester.  Penetar is honored by the conference for the fourth time in his career while Kucharski and Jimenez were selected for the second straight semester.

To qualify for President’s List honors, a student-athlete must maintain a semester grade-point average of at least a 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
