Freshman midfielder Matt Finor (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) played a key role as The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team earned a Landmark Conference playoff berth with a 13-7 win over Catholic University on Saturday, April 28, at Fitzpatrick Field. For his performance, Finor has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 29.
Finor was outstanding in the draw circle for the Royals, winning the draw control on 16 of his 20 attempts. He recorded 10 ground balls while helping the Royals dominate the possession game, leading to a 51-25 advantage in shots.
Finor’s play also helped Scranton win 17 of the 22 faceoffs, including nine of 12 in the first half as the Royals took a 9-2 lead into the break.
Scranton entered the game needing to win by four or more goals to guarantee a Landmark Conference playoff win. The victory gave the Royals the No. 3 seed, and they will travel to Madison, N.J. to face second-seeded Drew University in a semifinal game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
