DALLAS, Pa. - Senior Connor Casey (Hatfield, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) and junior Kieran Bracken (Stamford, Conn./South Kent) tallied second half goals, as the University of Scranton men's soccer team defeated Misericordia on the road, 2-0, on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Royals stay perfect on the young season at 5-0, while Misericordia dropped to 0-5 with the defeat.
In the opening frame of the contest, Scranton was unable to score a goal, despite outshooting Misericordia, 12-1, in the first 45 minutes of action. Four of those shots were on net for the Royals, but each was stopped by Cougar goalie Patrick Hoffmann to keep the game scoreless into intermission.
To kick off the second half, however, Casey got the Royals on the scoreboard with a goal, cracking the scoreless tie with a tally in the 48th minute to put Scranton up, 1-0. The goal, which was Casey's third of the year, was assisted by fellow senior Gavin Coutts (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham).
In the 67th minute, Bracken added the go-ahead goal, unassisted, to put the Royals up for good at 2-0. For Bracken, it was his second goal of the 2017 season.
From there, the Scranton defense continued to control the match, as the Royals coasted down the stretch. Overall, Misericordia was only able to fire four shots in 90 minutes of play, none of which were on goal.
Overall, the Royals dominated the stat sheet in the win, outshooting Misericordia, 23-4, on the night. Scranton also held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks, as well.
The University of Scranton men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Lycoming in a non-conference tilt at Fitzpatrick Field. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m.
