SCRANTON, Pa.--Juniors Tim
McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and
Mike Pannone (Maplewood, N.J./Seton Hall
Prep) each posted a pair of victories to lead The
University of Scranton men’s tennis team to a 6-3 victory
over Catholic on Thursday afternoon at Royal Courts at DeNaples
Fields.
McGurrin posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Catholic sophomore Cassian Utrie at No. 1 singles, as well as teaming with junior Bennett Kelley (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. Pannone posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles over Cardinals sophomore Brian Bradley (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and added an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles by teaming with junior Joe Morra (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Preparatory).
Scranton also received singles victories from junior Jonathan Russo (Madison, N.J./Madison) and freshman Harry Bonet (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle College High School). Russo earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Catholic sophomore Joe Peters (New Council, Pa./Council Rock North). Bonet won at No. 5 singles over Cardinals sophomore Jason Quisberth (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O’Connell).
The victory improves the Royals to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Catholic falls to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in Landmark action.
Scranton returns to the courts Tuesday, April 10, to host Wilkes at 7 p.m. at Royal Courts at DeNaples Fields.
