SCRANTON, Pa.—Seniors Joe Morra (Bronx, NY/Fordham Preparatory) and Mike Pannone (Maplewood, NJ/Seton Hall Preparatory) won the number one flight doubles title for The University of Scranton men’s tennis team at the non-team scoring Scranton Invitational Sunday at the Royal Courts at DeNaples Field.
Morra and Pannone downed Michael Kranz and Connor Peckham of Wilkes University, 8-4, to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Senior Tim McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and junior David Teres (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) advanced to the championship of the first flight in singles with a pair of wins today. McGurrin turned back Steven Wilson of Wilkes University, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5), in the semifinals to pick up his second win of the season and the 31st of his career, while Teres downed Morra, 7-5, 6-3, for his 18th career win. The championship match between McGurrin and Teres was not played.
The Royals will return to action with a pair of matches against Chestnut Hill College and Kutztown University next Saturday, September 29. Scranton will play Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia at 9:00 a.m. and stop on the way home in the afternoon to tangle with Kutztown.
