Two University of Scranton spring sport student-athletes were
named the Landmark Conference player of the week in their
respective sports, Kirbie Britt, associate commissioner, announced
Gus Sturm (Devon, Pa./Conastoga), a junior attacker on the men’s lacrosse team, and junior tennis player David Teres (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) were honored for their efforts during the period of March 25 through March 31.
Sturm scored a career-high three goals in the Royals’ 10-7 victory over Drew University on Thursday, March 28, in Madison, New Jersey, which was Scranton’s first win over Drew since April 21, 2004, snapping a nine-game series’ losing streak to the Rangers. He keyed a 3-0 run with a goal to open the fourth period as the Royals’ extended a one-goal lead into a 10-6 margin.
Scranton, which has won four straight games to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference, will return to action this Wednesday, April 3, against FDU-Florham at Fitzpatrick Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Teres won two of three matches in both singles and doubles competition for the Royals during a three-match Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He is now 19-10 in singles and 18-11 in doubles in his career.
The Royals will host five-time defending champion Drew University in Landmark Conference action this Wednesday, April 3, at the Royal Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m. Scranton and Drew have met in the championship match of the Landmark tournament in each of the last three seasons.
