SCRANTON, Pa.—Senior co-captain David Teres (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) and the doubles team of sophomores Kevin Murphy (Greenbelt, Md./Gonzaga College) and Michael O’Malley (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) won matches today for The University of Scranton men’s tennis team at the non-team scoring Scranton Invitational.
Teres turned back Stephen Brand of King’s College, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) in a quarterfinal match of the A singles, while Murphy and O’Malley downed Ryan Hegarty and Tyler Tuck of King’s, 8-4, in the quarterfinals of the B doubles.
Teres picked up his first win of the season to improve to 28-12
(.700) in his career. In a consolation match in the C
singles, Royal freshman David Commender (Larchmont, NY/Iona
Preparatory) picked up his first career win with a 8-0
victory over Alex Gerhart of Moravian College
The tournament will continue tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Royal Courts. It is open to the public and admission is free.
