BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The University of Scranton men's tennis team is headed back to the Landmark Conference playoffs for the second straight season, as the Royals clinched a bid with a 9-0 victory at Moravian on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Scranton remained unbeaten in the Landmark Conference at 5-0 and are now 7-7 overall for the year. Moravian fell to 2-13 and 0-5 in the Landmark with the defeat.
In doubles, the sweep began for Scranton with three victories, led by the number one team of junior Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and sophomore Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Cental), who took an 8-4 victory.
At number two, seniors Michael Pottieger (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) and Matt Prendergast (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) were victorious by an 8-5 score, while at number three doubles, sophomore's Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) rolled to an 8-0 victory to complete the sweep of doubles for Scranton.
In singles, the domination continued for the Royals, as they took all six matches contested in straight sets.
McGurrin won at number one singles (6-1, 6-0), Ochalski (6-4, 6-1) was victorious at number two, while Prendergast rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles.
In the number four spot in the lineup, sophomore Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Harkins won by the same score at number five. The sweep of Moravian was complete at number six singles, where Aksu didn't lose a set in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference home match at Royal Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
