CENTER VALLEY, Pa.—Juniors Jason Bohenek (Jessup, Pa./Holy Cross-Bishop O'Hara) and Patrick Casterline (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) led The University of Scranton to an 11th-place finish in the 24-team field at the DeSales Invitational Saturday morning.
Bohenek and Casterline covered the 8000-meter course in 28:03.57 and 28:15.38 to finish 29th and 39th, respectively. Rounding out the Royals's top five scorers were freshman Stephan Bossbaly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Holy Ghost Preparatory) in 49th (28:32.19) and Walter Cantwell (Collingswood, N.J./Camden Catholic) in 67th (28:56.96), and sophomore Matt Willcox (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Preparatory) in 71st (29:02.56).
Today's finish was the highest for the Royals in an invitational so far this season.
Abad Akhtar of Richard Stockton College won the individual title in a time of 26:28.49. Kutztown University, with three runners placing in the top 15, won the team championship with 92 points. Muhlenberg was second (111), followed by DeSales (130), Moravian (132) and the University of Mary Washington (151).
Also competing for the Royals today were juniors Chris Cummings (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory; 89th, 29:27.28), Jeremy Evans (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross-Bishop Hannan; 92nd, 29:33.70), and Justin Kearns (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional; 124th, 30:22.92); sophomore Brock Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton; 163rd, 31:46.07); and junior Benji Brust (Olyphant, Pa./Holy Cross-Bishop O'Hara; 238th, 35:15.67).
The Royals will return to action on Saturday, October 30, at the Landmark Conference championships to be held on the campus of Goucher College in Towson, Maryland.
