Burke Paces Royals To Fourth-Place Team Finish At Season-Opening Marywood Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa.—Sophomore Bill
Burke (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) paced The
University of Scranton to a fourth-place finish in the 10-team
field at the Marywood Invitational held Saturday morning at McDade
Park.
Burke covered the 5.9 kilometer course in 22:08 to finish 16th
overall in the 85-runner field. Juniors Walter Cantwell (Collingwood, NJ/Camden
Catholic) and Stefan Bossbaly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Holy Ghost
Preparatory) and senior Matt
Willcox (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Preparatory) were
next across the finish line for the Royals in 22nd (22:31), 23rd
(22:31), and 24th-place (22:49), respectively. Rounding out
Scranton’s top five was freshman Corey
Wasilnak (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) in 26th place in
22:57.
Keystone College, which had three runners finish in the top five,
won the team title with 35 points, followed by Gywnedd-Mercy (56),
Marywood (59), Scranton (107), Immaculata (143), Cairn (190),
Neumann (208), Baptist Bible (214), Rosemont (224), Centenary
(264).
Eric LiPuma of Marywood University won the individual title in a
time of 20:17.
Also competing for the Royals today were freshmen Jason
Sansky (Olyphant, Pa./Mid-Valley) and Chris
LoGuirato (Wilton, Conn./Wilton). Sansky
finished 29th in 23:08 and LoGuirato was 31st in 23:18.
The Royals will return to action next Saturday, September 8, at
the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, New York.
