    Fifth-ranked Bowdoin built a 17-point lead in the third quarter of Friday night’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 matchup at Scranton and held off a comeback bid to defeat the #10 Lady Royals, 66-54 in the Long Center. The Polar Bears improve to 27-3 on the season and advance to Saturday’s Elite 8 contest against NESCAC rival Tufts, who defeated Messiah, 70-39, in Friday evening’s first game tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Scranton.

    The University of Scranton women’s basketball team used a strong second half on Saturday evening to defeat Cabrini 55-46 in the Long Center to advance to the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row. The 10th ranked Lady Royals improve to 28-1 on the season with their 23rd consecutive victory.

    The University of Scranton women’s basketball opened the NCAA Tournament with a 68-48 victory over Keuka in first round action on Friday night in the Long Center. The #10 Lady Royals (27-1) will take on Cabrini (26-2), who defeated Brooklyn in Friday’s opening game, 65-52, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. with a bid Sweet 16 on the line.

The Lady Royals, who have already clinched the top seed in next week’s Landmark Conference playoffs, improve to 23-1 (12-1 Landmark) on the year while finishing with a perfect 12-0 mark in the Long Center during the regular season.
