University of Scranton women's basketball head coach Trevor Woodruff has announced the team's schedule for the 2018-19 season.  The Lady Royals' challenging slate includes 12 home games and three regular season tournaments highlighted by the season-opening Cross County Challenge and the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic.

After a 28-2 season which included their third straight Landmark Conference championship, and an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance, the Lady Royals will be tested by a strong non-conference slate while battling always competitive Landmark Conference opponents.

Scranton will play at least five games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season with the potential to face as many as six UMass Boston is also playing in tournament with the Lady Royals this year.

Scranton's schedule also features 16 contests against opponents who won at least 15 games last season including five, and potentially six, against squads that claimed 21 or more victories.

The Lady Royals will open the season with the third annual Cross County Challenge hosted by Marywood on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17.  Scranton will take on King's at 6 p.m. in its season opener before meeting Wilkes the following afternoon at 2 p.m.

Following a third straight game at Marywood on Tuesday, Nov. 20, this one against the Pacers, the Lady Royals will play their home opener against DeSales on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. to tip off a six-game homestand in the John Long Center.

Included in that stretch is a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament second round matchup against Cabrini on Wednesday, Nov. 28, the Lady Royals' Landmark Conference opener against Goucher on Saturday, Dec. 1, and the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16.

Scranton will take on Ithaca at 4 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 15 in the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic before playing Capital the following afternoon at 2 p.m.

After a non-conference contest at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday, Dec. 18, Scranton will close out the 2018 calendar year at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Holiday Tournament on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 30 and 31.  The Lady Royals square off against NCAA Tournament qualifier Roger Williams on the first day of the tournament with WPI and UMass Boston meeting in the other first round contest.

Scranton turns its attention to Landmark Conference play at the turn of the New Year as the Lady Royals play 13 league contests in January and February to finish the regular season.

Highlights of the Landmark Conference slate include a pair of games against Juniata, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season after falling to Scranton in overtime, 59-58, in the Landmark Conference championship game.  The Eagles, who dealt Scranton its only regular season defeat last season, will host the Lady Royals on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Huntingdon, Pa. before visiting the John Long Center on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Additionally, Scranton welcomes Moravian to the John Long Center on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. before making a trip to Bethlehem to face the Greyhounds on Wednesday, Feb. 6.  Scranton and Moravian produced a pair of overtime thrillers during the regular season last year before the Lady Royals handled the Greyhounds, 67-45, in the Landmark Conference semifinals.
