The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team has been picked second in the Landmark Conference preseason poll of the conference's eight head coaches which was released on Tuesday morning.

The Royals captured 54 points and has one first place vote to sit behind preseason favorite Catholic in the balloting.  The Cardinals, who defeated Scranton in last spring's Landmark Conference championship game, collected 70 points and seven first place votes to top the poll.

Elizabethtown was slotted third in the balloting with 47 points while Drew placed fourth with 38 points. Rounding out the poll are Susquehanna (32), Moravian (19), Goucher (12), and Juniata (8).

Scranton, led by sixth-year head coach Cindy Wilson, returns four All-Landmark Conference selections from last season, eight of its top nine leading scorers from last spring, and the core of a strong defensive unit.

Sophomore midfielder Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) was an IWLCA All-Region Second Team and All-Landmark Conference First Team selection after leading the team with 51 groundballs last season while collecting 36 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers

Senior defender Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) returns after also capturing All-Landmark Conference First Team honors in 2017.  Siepietowski picked up 30 groundballs, 12 caused turnovers, and 11 draw controls while also scoring three goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) is back after garnering All-Landmark Conference Second Team accolades as a freshman.  Putnam posted a 10-6 record with an 11.09 goals against average and a .450 save percentage after making 118 saves last spring.

Scranton will rely on senior midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), the Royals' all-time leader in draw controls, to lead the squad in the possession battle.  An All-Landmark Conference Second Team pick last season, Angelo has totaled 285 draw controls, including a team-leading 78 in 2017, through her first three seasons with the Royals.

On the attack, Scranton will look to veterans Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), and Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) to lead the way.

Rogers, who ranks 15th all-time in assists (37) and 26th in points (84), led the Royals with 29 helpers last spring and was second on the squad with 53 points.  Olert was third on the scoring chart with 43 points on 20 goals and 23 assists and, despite missing two games last season, Windisch ranked fourth on the squad in scoring with 37 points on 28 goals and nine assists.

Scranton will open the 2018 season on Saturday, February 24 at Farmingdale State starting at 1:00 p.m. in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Royals' home opener will also be the team's first Landmark Conference game of the year against Goucher on Sunday, March 25, at 1:00 p.m.
