Wrestling's Guenther Named Scranton Athlete of the Week

Guenther (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) of
the wrestling team has been named The University of Scranton
Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 22, after
helping the Royals to a fourth-place finish at The Builder
Invitational on Saturday.
Guenther finished second in the 141-pound weight class as the Royals posted two second-place finishes and five fifth-place finishes in the 11-team tournament hosted by The Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.
Guenther, who was the No. 2 seed at 141 pounds, reached the championship bout by pinning Krist Dutt of UMBC at the 4:07 mark of the second in a quarterfinal bout, then posting an 8-3 decision over Nick Caffrey of East Carolina in their semifinal match.
In the championship bout, Guenther faced top-seeded Cody Roberts of Marion Military Academy and lost a hard-fought 5-2 decision.
Guenther is now 9-8 overall on the season.
Scranton is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 29, when the Royals host Yeshiva and King’s in the Long Center starting at noon.
