With the beginning of preseason practices less than a month away, The University of Scranton women’s soccer team will get started a little early in a very unique way – by visiting Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
The Royals of head coach Colleen Murphy will embark on a 10-day trip through the three European countries on Monday, July 30. The team will arrive in Munich, Germany on Tuesday, July 31, and immediately travel to Austria, where they will spend three days. On Friday, July 3, they’ll head north to the Czech Republic before returning to Munich on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 5, before flying home on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
The Royals, who are two-time defending Landmark Conference champions, will play three friendly matches against local club teams during the trip, one in each country. They will also have a team training session as well as a joint training session with FC Puchheim, a local German club team. The team will also receive a guided tour of Allianz Stadium in Munich, home of Bayern Munich, the most successful soccer club in Germany.
Follow the Royals during the entire trip as they blog about their experiences at http://uofscrantonwomensoccer.wordpress.com.
Scranton will begin its quest for a third straight conference title when it opens the 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, against William Paterson at 4 p.m. in the Haverford Kickoff Classic Tournament in Haverford, Pa.
