FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) found the back of the net late in the second overtime to lift The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Farmingdale State on Saturday.
Uricchio picked up a loose ball off a rebound and scored with 1:29 left in double overtime to give Scranton (4-2-0) its second straight win. It was the first goal of the season and ninth of her career for Uricchio, including her fifth match-winner.
It was fairly even match all afternoon, with the Royals holding a slim 19-14 edge in shots and each team taking six corner kicks. Uricchio led the Royals with five shots while junior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) took four.
Junior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made five saves, including one in the first overtime, to pick up her third shutout of the season.
The women's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when they Royals travel to New York, N.Y. to take on New York University at 7 p.m.
