TOWSON, Md—Behind two individual wins apiece from senior
Carolyn Gillespie (New Market,
Md./Linganore) and freshmen Kaitlyn
Maloney (Basking Ridge, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan),
Jean Park (North Brunswick, NJ/North
Brunswick) and Paige
Agnello (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), The
University of Scranton defeated Goucher College, 103-19, and
Juniata, 84-37, to remain undefeated on the season.
Gillespie won the 50 free (:25.16) and the 100 fly (:59.52),
Maloney captured the 200 fly (2:28.87) and the 500 free (5:37.59),
Park finished first in the 100 (:56.90) and 200 (2:04.36) free, and
Agnello won the 200 breaststroke (2:33.65) and the 200 individual
medley (2:20.56) as Scranton improved to 6-0.
The Royals also received first-place finishes from senior
Jillian McGowan (Port Chester, NY/School of the
Holy Child) in the 1000 free (11:47.49) and sophomore
Sara Franciscovich (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) in the 200 back (2:17.89).
Scranton swept the relay events, too, as senior Christine
Gorge (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), junior
Jenny Fitzmaurice (Milford, Conn./Academy of Our
Lady of Mercy), Gillespie, and sophomore Jessica Merino (New Hyde Park, NY/Holy Trinity
Diocesan) won the 200 medley in 1:55.57. The Royals
ended the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, as
Franciscovich, junior Margaret Beyer (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe
Woodbury), Merino, and Gillespie covered the distance in
1:43.61.
Scranton will return to action next Saturday, November 19, against
Susquehanna University beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Byron
Complex.
