Senior Devon Cohen (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) went a perfect 4-0 to help The University of Scranton women’s tennis team win a pair of matches last week. As a result, Cohen has been named Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 21.
Cohen opened the week by posting a pair of victories in a 5-4 non-conference victory over Misericordia on Wednesday, April 17, at Royal Courts. She teamed with freshman Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, then went out and rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
On Sunday, April 21, Cohen helped Scranton hand Goucher its only Landmark Conference loss of the season, 6-3. She again teamed with Walsh for a win at No. 2 doubles, this time prevailing 8-6. Cohen also earned a win at No. 2 singles when her opponent retired with Cohen leading 7-6 (7-4), 4-1.
On the season, Cohen is 8-6 in singles play, including 4-2 in conference matches. She is 6-8 in doubles play, including 3-3 in conference matches.
Cohen and the Royals will begin defense of their Landmark Conference championship as the No. 3 seed and will visit second-seeded Catholic on Wednesday, April 24, at 3:30 p.m.
