Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre
Dame), a sophomore on The University of Scranton
women’s tennis team, played a key role in the Royals’
5-3 victory over Goucher College in the championship match of the
Landmark Conference tournament Saturday afternoon in Towson,
She won both of her matches as Scranton captured its second straight Landmark title and will now advance to the NCAA Division III championships for the second consecutive year. Earlier in the week, Azzalina teamed with senior Lindsay Ward (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) to win the number two doubles as the Royals downed Catholic University, 5-3, in Washington, DC, in the semifinals.
Today, Azzalina was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.
Azzalina is now 8-6 this year and 19-9 in her career in singles. She has won seven of her last nine singles matches. In doubles, she is 10-5 with two different partners this season.
The Royals will find out next Monday, May 6, who their opponent is and where their match will be played in the upcoming NCAA Division III championships.
