Senior Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) had a big weekend at the ITA Northeast Regionals at Skidmore, advancing all the way to the championship match of the singles consolation bracket.
For her efforts, Frattaroli was named the Landmark Conference's women's tennis Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 24. This marks the second time on the 2017 fall season that Frattaroli has been named the Landmark's Athlete of the Week, as she earned the award back on Sept. 11. This is also the fifth time in her career that she has won the Athlete of the Week award, as well.
Frattaroli began the week helping the Royals coast past Marywood, 9-0, on Tuesday, as she won a doubles match in the victory.
Frattaroli then headed to the ITA Regionals on Friday. After falling in her first match of the weekend, she came back on Saturday in the consolation singles bracket and advanced with an 8-2 win over Dina Rigas of William Smith.
On Sunday, Frattaroli won three matches in the consolation bracket to advance all the way to the championship match. She started the day taking an 8-4 win over Vanessa Lam-Tran of Geneseo, then gutted out an 8-6 win over Megan Brown of Union College to advance to the semifinals of the bracket.
There, Frattaroli bested Audrey Chen of the College of New Jersey, 8-3. In the championship match of the consolation singles bracket, Frattaroli dropped a three-set thriller to Natalia Pezzuco of Union, ending a sterling run for the senior on the weekend at the ITA Regionals.
Frattaroli and the rest of the University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action on Tuesday, as they hit to road to play Lebanon Valley. Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
