The University of Scranton women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Landmark Conference tennis action this spring with an 8-1 victory over Elizabethtown on Sunday at the Wisehaven Tennis Center. The Royals lift their record to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play while the Blue Jays fall to 6-4 (3-1 Landmark).
Scranton set itself on course for its fourth consecutive victory by sweeping doubles play on Sunday. Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) earned an 8-6 decision at the top pairing while Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) cruised in straight sets at #2 doubles.
Frattaroli, DeNunzio, Jakubek, and Klacko would go on to post their second wins of the day in singles action as the Royals pulled away for the victory.
Frattaroli won at #1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while DeNunzio battled to a hard-fought, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 10-8) win at #2 singles.
Jakubek scored a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the third flight while Klacko bested her opponent at #4 singles.
Elizabethtown picked up its lone point of the match with a tight win at #5 singles while Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) was victorious at #6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Scranton will return home on Wednesday afternoon with a Landmark Conference match against Drew starting at 4:00 p.m. on the Royal Courts in Scranton.
