The University of Scranton volleyball team became the first team on campus to lock up a Landmark Conference tournament berth, defeating Elizabethtown College and Moravian College on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to remain undefeated in conference play.
And junior middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) played a key role in both of those wins, finishing with 17 kills and six total blocks to help the Royals improve to 18-7 under second-year head coach Jamie Spangler.
For her efforts, Cisto has been named the Royals’ Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 5. She opened the week with 10 kills and two blocks in Scranton’s 3-0 victory over backyard neighbor Marywood University on Tuesday, September 30.
In the latest Landmark Conference statistical rankings, Cisto leads the league in total blocks (92) and is third in blocks per set (0.99). In addition, she is now 12th in block solos (83), 13th in block assists (120), and 14th in total blocks (203) all-time in Scranton history.
The Royals will return to action this Thursday, October 9, against the Cougars of Misericordia University at the Anderson Center in Dallas, Pennsylvania, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
