ONEONTA, N.Y. - Sophomore Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) slammed home a match-high 22 kills and posted a career-high 24 digs, but it wasn't enough, as the University of Scranton volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match to SUNY-Oneonta on Wednesday night (28-26, 22-25, 17-25, 27-25, 8-15).
With the defeat, Scranton fell to 9-11 on the year.
In the loss, Scranton rallied for victories on tie-breaks in the first and fourth sets, sending the match to a fifth set for the seventh time on the year for the Royals.
But there, SUNY-Oneonta grabbed the momentum back in a seven point victory to take the match.
Overall, Kirwan hit .347 in the victory, going over 20 kills in a match for the seventh time on the year. She also posted two solo blocks at the net in the defeat, as well.
Elsewhere, freshman Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) finished with a season-high 19 kills, while sophomore Catherine Manning (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) ended the night with career-high 11 kills. Senior setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) finished with 47 assists and 20 digs, as well.
The University of Scranton volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, diving back into Landmark Conference play with two matches against Catholic and Goucher (which will both be played at Goucher).
The Catholic match will start at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Goucher match at 4 p.m.
