John Gatto enters his first year as Sports Information Director in 2019-20, assuming the role at The University of Scranton on July 1, 2019. He previously served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at the university from November of 2018 through June of 2019.

In his new role, Gatto is in charge of the sports information office, coordinating with the rest of the athletics department and other offices on campus to promote Scranton's teams and student-athletes through all available outlets.

Gatto took over his new role entering his 12th year in collegiate sports information in '19-20. A native of nearby Old Forge, Gatto served as the primary contact for 10 University teams in 2018-19, including the women's basketball program, as he handled all publicity responsibilities on the team's run to the 2019 NCAA Division III Final Four.

Before returning to the University in November, Gatto spent a year as the director of athletic communications at Goucher College, an NCAA Division III program in the Landmark Conference located in Baltimore.

At Goucher, Gatto directed the communications, publicity, and marketing efforts for the Gophers' 21 intercollegiate sports. In addition to providing statistical and game day coverage, he managed the athletics website and social media accounts, worked with various departments across campus, and solicited sponsorships for the athletics department.

Prior to his stint at Goucher, Gatto spent two-plus years in Scranton's athletics communications office, serving as the direct contact for nine intercollegiate sports, assisting in the management of the department's social media outlets, and helping to oversee the first redesign of the Royals' athletic website in more than five years.

From 2010-2015, Gatto worked in sports communications at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, an NAIA program offering 23 intercollegiate sports. He served as the department's photographer and managed several social media accounts for the Bulldogs. He also handled a complete redesign of the athletics website.

Gatto, who graduated from Bloomsburg with a degree in mass communications with a concentration in public relations in 2008, began his sports information career as the assistant director of media relations at the College of Charleston, a position he held for a year, before moving on to a media relations assistant position at Georgia Tech.

Gatto currently resides in Dunmore with his fiancé Kiersten Murrin and three-year-old dog Malachi.
