On the strength of five spring sports playoff appearances, The University of Scranton placed fifth in the final Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy standings for 2015-16.
Scranton finished with a 7.02 average for the entire year after men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis and softball all earned postseason berths in the spring. Susquehanna ran away with the Trophy, finishing with an 8.55 average.
In the Landmark Conference's seven-year history, Scranton has never finished lower than fifth among the eight institutions in the Presidents' Trophy standings. The Royals finished second in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2010-11.
Scranton finished the 2015-16 year with two Landmark Conference titles – men's soccer and women's basketball. The Royals also finished in the top four in the conference standings in 10 other sports – women's cross country, field hockey, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, and men's and women's tennis.
The Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for finishes in regular season standings as well as conference postseason competition. The formula also takes into account the number of sports a school sponsors with schools earning points for their 15 highest point-producing sports.
