On the strength of two more conference championships in winter sports, The University of Scranton has moved into first place in the Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy standings with the spring season still to come.
Following the completion of the Landmark Conference winter sports season, Scranton has a point total of 9.53, moving past Elizabethtown, which has 8.15 points. After the fall sports season, Elizabethtown led second-place Scranton, 10.38 to 8.25.
Scranton moved ahead with the help of conference titles from the men's and women's basketball teams. Those two crowns give Scranton four so far in 2016-17, after men's and women's soccer won titles in the fall.
The men's and women's swimming & diving both added second-place finishes last month, giving Scranton first- or second-place finishes in all four of its winter sports that compete in the Landmark Conference.
Susquehanna is currently in third place at 7.97 points, followed by Moravian (7.88), Catholic (6.82), Juniata (4.91), Drew (4.00) and Goucher (2.29).
The Presidents' Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The total number of points each institution earns is divided by the number of Landmark sports sponsored to determine the average.
