Led by a pair of Landmark Conference championships, The University of Scranton finished fifth in the final Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy standings for the 2018-19 year, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The Royals were led by conference championships from women's basketball and softball, and also received runner-up finishes from field hockey, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis, and women's lacrosse.
Scranton's volleyball, men's basketball, men's lacrosse, and baseball teams also earned Landmark Conference playoff berths while men's cross country, men's swimming & diving, and women's swimming & diving all finished in the top-four at the Landmark Conference Championships for their respective sports.
Moravian topped the final Presidents' Trophy standings with an average point total of 9.09 while Susquehanna came in second at 7.53. Catholic placed third with a score of 7.44 while Elizabethtown checked in just ahead of Scranton with a 7.05 point total average to edge out the Royals' mark of 7.01.
In the 12-year history of the Landmark Conference, Scranton has finished second on five occasions – 2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2016-17 and 2017-18 – and has never finished lower than fifth.
The Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for finishes in regular season standings as well as conference postseason competition. The formula also takes into account the number of sports a school sponsors with schools earning points for their 15 highest point-producing sports.
