Scranton Sits Second in Landmark Presidents’ Trophy Standings

TOWSON, Md. – Following the completion of the fall sports season, The University of Scranton sits in second place in the Landmark Presidents' Trophy standings.

In the fall, the Royals put together a banner performance across the board to put themselves in second place overall in the Presidents' Trophy standings, headlined by conference titles by field hockey (their first in program history) and women's soccer (their third in the last four seasons). The field hockey team also finished on top of the conference standings in the regular season to garner 14 total points for the Royals in the overall standings.

Elsewhere, both the men's soccer (2nd) and volleyball (4th) earned Landmark playoffs berths, and the men's and women's cross country registered top-four finishes at their respective conference championship meets (men 4th, women 3rd).

Just ahead of Scranton in the Presidents' Trophy standings for the fall in Elizabethtown, who captured Landmark titles in both men's and women's cross country and qualified for the Landmark playoffs in the other four fall sports, finishing runner-up in men's soccer.

In third is Susquehanna, who was defeated by Scranton in both the field hockey and women's soccer championship games, while the River Hawks advanced to the volleyball title match, falling to Juniata. Catholic rounds out the top four in the standings, as they won the Landmark title in men's soccer earlier this month.

Coming in fifth was Moravian, while Juniata, Drew and Goucher rounded out the Presidents' Trophy standings for the fall of 2019.

The Landmark Presidents' Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The point structure was revised in the summer of 2016 with different point hierarchies for team and individual sports, but the maximum number of points any team can earn is 15. The total number of points each institution earn is divided by the number of Landmark sports sponsored to determine the average.
