UPDATE: Iggy has advanced to the Symbolic 16 for a matchup against the Loyola Marymount Lion, ironically also named Iggy. Voting for this round ends Wednesday at 10 a.m., so visit http://bustedhalo.com/blogs/catholic-mascotology-2014-day-2-symbolic-16 and help Iggy in the quest to be named Best Catholic Mascot!
Rooting for the Royals has become a way of life at The University of Scranton, regardless of which of our 18 intercollegiate athletics teams is your favorite. Now, it’s time to throw our support behind the University’s no. 1 cheerleader, Iggy!
Bustedhalo.com announced its Catholic Mascotology 2014 bracket on Monday, the website’s bracket-style competition to allow fans to vote for their favorite Catholic mascots. Thirty-two mascots are vying for the title of Best Catholic Mascot. To access the contest, visit http://bustedhalo.com/blogs/catholic-mascotology-2014-day-1-round-of-32.
In a first-round matchup, Iggy is matched against the University of Detroit Mercy Titan in the All Jesuit Region of the bracket. First-round voting continues until Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m., followed by second-round voting beginning at 11 a.m.
When Iggy advances – because we believe in the power of positive thinking – the second-round opponent will be either the Loyola Marymount Lion or the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinal.
Last year’s champion, Petey, the Canisius Golden Griffin, heads the entire bracket, which also includes the Gonzaga Bulldog, the Providence Friar and the Holy Cross Crusader, among other recognizable mascots.
