Senior right-fielder Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and junior right-hander Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) of The University of Scranton baseball team swept this week's Landmark Conference awards after both had big weeks on the diamond.
Standen was named the conference's Athlete of the Week after he went 13-for-28 (.464) with four doubles, three home runs, 17 RBIs and 10 runs scored in six games last week. He was nearly unstoppable in the Royals' first Landmark Conference series of the season, going 8-for-13 with two doubles, three home runs – one in each game – 14 RBIs and seven runs scored as the Royals won two of three at Juniata.
Standen also reached the 100-hit milestone for his career when he had a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning of a 17-4 win on Sunday at Juniata.
Rohr was named Pitcher of the Week after he earned the win in both of his appearances on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits and four walks while fanning five in 11 1/3 total innings.
Rohr started the week by working 5 1/3 innings of relief in a 12-6 win over Messiah on Monday, March 12, in Fort Pierce, Fla. He gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out two. On Sunday, he got the start against Juniata and worked six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while fanning three.
The baseball team's game against Keystone on Tuesday has been postponed. The Royals are now scheduled to return to action on Thursday against Muhlenberg at 5 p.m.
