Freshman outfielder Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal Central) of The University of Scranton baseball team has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for baseball after collecting nine hits in six games last week.
Harding went 9-for-22 (.409) with three runs, four RBIs and two stolen bases as the Royals completed the regular season by splitting six games during the week.
Harding went 4-for-12 during three non-conference games in the middle of the week, with a double, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. The highlight of the three games came when he went 3-for-6 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in a 16-14 loss to Stevens on Tuesday, May 1.
On the weekend, Harding went a combined 5-for-10 with a triple, two RBIs and a stolen base as Scranton took two out of three in the series to lock down the no. 3 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs. In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Harding delivered, a two-strike, two-out, RBI triple to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, allowing the Royals to go on to win, 6-5.
The Royals will open the Landmark Conference Championship on Friday, May 11, in the second game of the day when they take on second-seeded Elizabethtown at 7 p.m. at Volpe Field.
