EDITOR'S NOTE: Updates to include ABCA honor.
Senior center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) of The University of Scranton baseball team has been named All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com, according to announcements from both organizations on Tuesday.
Last week, Trotter became the first player in Landmark Conference baseball history to earn first-team all-conference honors four times. He is the conference's all-time hit leader with 219 career hits, which is also the most on record in University of Scranton history.
This season, Trotter hit .359 with a career-high 61 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 49 runs, 28 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He led the conference in runs and stolen bases, was second in hits, tied for second in triples, eighth in doubles and tied for 14th in RBIs.
Trotter's defense in center field was among the best in the nation. His ability to range deep into either gap and straight back on balls over his head often turned ordinary extra-base hits into outs. He made a handful of diving catches this spring, including one on the warning track in right-center field against Susquehanna on May 5 at Volpe Field that is still being talked about by those who witnessed it.
This is the second time Trotter has earned all-region honors in his career. He was named All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team by the ABCA in 2015.
