Sophomore Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) of The University of Scranton baseball team had four hits including a big home run in a pair of Landmark Conference playoff games over the weekend. For his efforts, he has been honored as The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Johnson batted .444 in Scranton's two postseason games, totaling four hits with a home run and a double to go along with three RBI and one run scored.
In a 6-5 loss to top-seeded and eventual champion Susquehanna on Friday, Haag doubled and stolen a base as the Royals were edged by the River Hawks in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament.
The following day, Johnson had a big day at the plate against Catholic, going 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave the Royals a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals would rally though to edge Scranton in 10 innings, 5-4.
Johnson finished the season batting .339 with 41 hits including 11 doubles and two home runs. He scored 27 runs and had 18 RBI while posting a .389 on-base percentage and a .479 slugging percentage. He also went 9-for-10 on stolen base attempts for the season.
Scranton finished the 2019 season with a 17-22 record and qualified for the Landmark Conference playoffs for the second year in a row this spring.
