Harding Collects ABCA/Rawlings All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team Honors

A new day brings another honor for sophomore outfielder Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) of The University of Scranton baseball team who seen his resume swell with multiple awards following a record-breaking spring for the Royals.  Harding has most recently been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region Second Team as announced late Tuesday.

Harding is just the fourth player in Scranton history to earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors, joining Chris Bligh (First Team - 2008, 2009, 2010), David Giglio (Third Team - 2011), and Tommy Trotter (Third Team - 2015, 2018).

The All-Region recognition is the latest accolade to be bestowed on Harding, who was named to a D3baseball.com Third Team All-American earlier on Tuesday after earning Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors from the same organization.  He was also named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year, was a First Team All-Landmark Conference honoree, and was chosen to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team earlier this spring.

This past season, Harding led Scranton to the Landmark Conference playoffs as the Royals went 17-22 overall while posting a 9-9 record in conference action. 

At the plate, Harding recorded a remarkable .464 batting average, the third-highest mark in Scranton history, while setting program records with 70 hits and nine triples.  He also hit eight doubles and three home runs while driving in 34 runs and scoring 46 runs while going 14-for-17 on stolen base attempts.

The Landmark Conference leader in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, and triples, Harding ranked among the nation's top hitters while also logging a .517 on-base percentage and a .695 slugging percentage.

Defensively, he recorded 101 putouts and had four assists from his position in centerfield while committing just three errors in 108 total chances for a .972 fielding percentage.

Through the first two years of his career, Harding holds a .411 batting average with 122 hits including 13 doubles, 11 triples, and three home runs. He has scored 74 runs, 62 RBI, and has stolen 30 bases.  Harding also sports a .471 on-base percentage, a .559 slugging percentage, and a .966 fielding percentage for his career.

The 2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year were announced in all eight regions late Tuesday afternoon. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Americans will be announced the evening of Thursday, May 30. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 19.
