ELMIRA, N.Y. - Senior Meredith Campbell (Media, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored two goals for the second straight match, as the University of Scranton field hockey team controlled host Elmira from the opening whistle in a 4-0 victory on Saturday.

With the win, Scranton improved to 2-0 on the young season, while Elmira dropped to 0-1.

The scoring started fast for the Royals in the win, as Campbell got on the board 21 seconds into the match, giving Scranton an early 1-0 edge. A dominating Scranton first half was punctuated in the 31st minute, as freshman Megan Gallagher (Thorndale, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scored her first career goal, unassisted, to give Scranton a 2-0 lead into halftime.

After a first half where the Royals outshot Elmira, 14-0, Campbell extended the Royal lead out to 3-0 in the 57th minute, scoring off an assist from sophomore Brianna Witt (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern).

The final goal of the match was then tallied by freshman Brittany Schumann (Andover, N.J./Newton) in the 68th minute, as she scored the first goal of her career, unassisted, to cap off a dominating day by Scranton.

Overall, Scranton outshot Elmira by a staggering 34-2 margin, as the Royals had 16 penalty corners (Elmira had no penalty corners in the entire contest). In net, sophomore Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made a save on the only shot on net by Elmira in the match during the second half to earn the shutout victory.

The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to William Paterson for another non-conference match. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
