Senior Meredith Campbell (Media, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) of the University of Scranton field hockey team continued her torrid pace on the offensive attack last week, as the Royals pushed their record to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference.
For her efforts, Campbell was named the Landmark Conference's field hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week on Monday. For her career, it marks the fifth time she has been named the Landmark's Offensive Athlete of the Week.
This past week, Campbell scored four goals, as the Royals upended Albright, 2-1, on Wednesday, then blew out Susquehanna on the road on Saturday, 7-0, in Landmark Conference action. The win over Susquehanna was also the field hockey's programs 400th all-time win, as well.
Against Albright, Campbell scored the eventual game-winner in the 43rd minute, as the Royals hung on for a 2-1 win. Meanwhile, on Saturday against Susquehanna, Campbell posted her third hat trick of the year in the first half, helping the Royals leap out to a 6-0 lead at halftime.
In 2017, Campbell is rewriting the Scranton record books.
Entering this week, Campbell has scored 21 goals and added six assists for a 48-point total for the year. Already, Campbell ranks second all-time in program history in both goals scored in a season and total points for a campaign just 12 matches in.
Campbell and the rest of the University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Drew in another Landmark Conference match-up at Fitzpatrick Field. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
