Field Hockey Keeps Rolling With 6-1 Triumph Over King’s

Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) netted a hat trick to go along with an assist while Megan Gallagher (Thorndale, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) dished out four helpers on Thursday night to lead The University of Scranton to a 6-1 victory over King's in non-conference field hockey action at Weiss Field.  

Katherine McVeagh (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township), Annie Amentler (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area), and Julie Burrill (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) also scored for the Royals, who are now 5-0 on the season. 

Tolley scored twice in a span of 2:44 in the first half to stake Scranton out to a 2-0 lead.  Gallagher set up Tolley's first goal of the game in the 20th minute before Tolley knocked in her second goal of the evening off an assist from Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough)

McVeagh pushed the host's lead to 3-0 just over five minutes before halftime, tallying her first goal of the season off of Gallagher's second helper of the day. 

Tolley completed her hat trick just 1:52 into the second half, putting home her team-leading fifth goal of the year with Gallagher adding another assist. 

The Monarchs (2-3) got on the board in the 40th minute to make it a 4-1 game, but Scranton closed out the scoring by finding the back of the cage twice in the final 21 minutes of play. 

Amentler scored her first goal of the season in the 50th minute after taking a pass from Tolley before Burrill netted her first collegiate goal by deflecting in a shot from the top of the circle from Gallagher in the 57th minute. 

Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made three saves to earn the win in her first start of the season in the host's cage. 

The Royals held a 15-5 advantage in shots for the game and doubled up the Monarchs in penalty corners, 6-3. 

Scranton will travel to Glenside, Pa. on Saturday to take on Arcardia in a non-conference tilt starting at 12 p.m.
