Junior forward Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) of The University of Scranton field hockey team scored a hat trick on Saturday at Goucher to lead the Royals to their first conference win of the season. As a result of her performance, she has been honored as the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.
McClatchy's award is her second Landmark Conference weekly honor this season and marks the fourth time in five weeks this fall the Scranton has garnered the league's Offensive Player of the Week award.
On Saturday at Goucher, McClatchy gave Scranton a 1-0 lead just 5:37 into the contest, scoring what would stand as her fourth game-winning goal of the year. She extended the Royals' lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute before completing her hat trick in the 56th minute as Scranton pulled away for a 6-0 victory.
McClatchy leads the Landmark Conference in scoring this fall with 23 points on a league-best 10 goals to go along with three assists. Her four game-winning goals are also best in the conference.
Saturday's hat trick was McClatchy's second three-goal performance of the fall and she has registered a point in seven of Scranton's 10 games to date this season.
McClatchy and the Royals visit Albright on Wednesday night for a non-conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
