The University of Scranton field hockey team swept the Landmark Conference weekly awards as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Senior Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) was named Offensive Athlete of the Week and sophomore Amelia Sharp (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was named Defensive Athlete of the Week.
This marks the second time this season that McClatchy has earned the award after winning it on Sept. 16 and this is the first career Landmark Conference weekly honor for Sharp.
McClatchy tallied three goals and an assist in two games last week as the Royals picked up a 4-1 win over Drew on Thursday and a 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday. The senior forward scored a pair of goals and added an assist in Thursday's win over Drew and scored the first goal of the game vs. Elizabethtown. McClatchy's nine goals are tops on the team and rank third in the Landmark Conference.
Sharp scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke with 2:41 left in Saturday's win over Elizabethtown and added a defensive save early in the third quarter to keep it a 1-0 game at the time.
Scranton sits on top of the Landmark Conference standings at 5-0 with two conference games remaining.
The Royals are back in action at Susquehanna on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
