The University of Scranton field hockey team (13-7) captured the first Landmark Conference championship in program history to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will host MIT (13-4) in a first round game on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Weiss Field in Scranton.
Game time has yet to be determined.
The winner of Wednesday's game will play SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, Nov. 16 at TCNJ in Ewing, N.J.
Scranton is making its second ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 1997 when the Royals played TCNJ. MIT is making its second appearance in the last three seasons and the fifth in program history.
The Royals scored three first half goals en route to a 4-1 win over Susquehanna and the program's first Landmark Conference title on Saturday. Senior Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) tallied a pair of goals in the contest and sophomore Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) added a goal and two assists.
MIT rallied to upset No. 15 Babson and recorded a 3-2 overtime victory in the NEWMAC Championship game on Saturday. The Engineers' Devon Goetz tied the game in the fourth quarter and scored the game-winner just 35 seconds into overtime.
This will mark the first ever meeting between Scranton and MIT. It will also be the first NCAA Tournament game to be played on Weiss Field at the Quinn Athletics Campus.
