Field Hockey Places 15 Student-Athletes on NFHCA National Academic Squad

GILBERT, Ariz. – 15 members of The University of Scranton field hockey team were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad that was announced by the organization on Thursday.

There were a total of 1,943 players from 157 Division III Institutions that earned National Academic Squad honors.

The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Of the 15 student-athletes that received the honor, the Royals had four seniors, three juniors, seven sophomores and one freshman:

Seniors: Lauren Earnshaw (Audubon, Pa./Methacton), Nicolette Keale (Wall Township, N.J./Wall), Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and Brianna Witt (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern).

Juniors: Annie Amentler (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area), Sheila Newby (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Brittany Schumann (Andover, N.J./Newton).

Sophomores: Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Shannon Broderick (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), Amanda Gerenza (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), Kait Hartsky (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), Ellie Lindauer (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), Ashley Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) and Caitlin Schreiber (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence Central)

Freshman: Clare Maguire (Oreland, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy)

Earnshaw and McAllister both earned the National Academic Squad honor in all four years of their career.

The Royals also received the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award for achieving a team grad point average of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester that was announced last week for the eighth straight year.
