Five Field Hockey Student-Athletes Earn Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction Honors

GILBERT, Ariz. – The University of Scranton field hockey team had five players earn Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholar of Distinction honors as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

The Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Junior Annie Amentler (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area), sophomore Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), sophomore Shannon Broderick (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), senior Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and sophomore Caitlin Schreiber (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence Central) were the five Royals to earn the award. McAllister received the distinction in all four years of her career, while Amentler has earned the award in three straight years and Benadon and Broderick both received the honor for a second straight year.

Scranton previously received the National Academic Team Award for an eighth straight year and had 15 players named to the National Academic Squad.
